GAME ON: THE COMEBACK
OF WOMEN’S ATHLETICS
The Cecil College athletic department saw a resurgence of its women’s athletics
programs in 2024. With the foundation laid, supporters of the Seahawks can expect
more to come in 2025.
The women’s basketball team took the court for the first time in 1,700+ days this
fall. The Seahawks quickly won their first game, defeating Middlesex College on
November 12. Freshman Guard Jessie Ware led the program’s return on the floor,
averaging 21 points per game along with six assists and six steals per contest. Ware
was named Region 20 Division 2 Player of the Month after an excellent showing in
November. She closed out the month by scoring a career-high 33 points in a victory
over Delaware Technical Community College.
After a six-year hiatus, the Cecil College softball program hit the field last
spring. The Seahawks claimed their first victory in thrilling fashion, defeating
Westmoreland County with a season-high 19 runs. Head Coach Chad Zearfoss has
prepared the team for an exciting 2025, with several new faces from across the
country and within Cecil County joining the program.
Volleyball continues to be the
cornerstone of Cecil women’s programs.
The team closed out the year with
five straight wins, including a sweep
of Region 20 foe Chesapeake College.
Freshman hitter Etta Harris will return
next fall after breaking the program’s
single season record for kills with 302.
She is just 44 kills away from earning
Cecil’s top spot for a career.
All three programs continue filling out
their rosters for the 2025-26 season.
