When Amber Potts enrolled in Cecil
College’s Medical Assistant program,
she discovered that her externship
at Health Care for Children would
become the foundation for her career.
Embedded in applied clinical work, she
developed professional skills, made
meaningful connections, and gained
guidance that helped her transition from
student to specialist. Her externship
not only strengthened her technical
abilities but also helped her cultivate the
communication skills needed to support
patients through life’s challenges.
“I now have the opportunity to mentor
new students, training them on the
importance of having confidence,
working as a team, and professionalism,”
said Potts, who takes great pride in
inspiring the students who have come
after her. She said that representing the
mission of Cecil College’s program has
become a role she values deeply, and she
remains committed to supporting the
next generation of healthcare workers. “I
am delighted to represent the valuable
mission of the program and will continue
to be a supportive advocate.”
Organizations like Health Care for
Children recognize the mutual value of
hosting students. These partnerships
strengthen the talent pipeline, giving
students opportunities to practice
in real environments while helping
employers cultivate future hires. They
form a cycle of learning, mentoring, and
career development that benefits entire
communities.
We are grateful to Cecil College for their partnership
and the opportunity to mentor their students.
Collaborations like this strengthen our profession
by preparing capable, compassionate healthcare
providers who are ready to make a lasting impact in
their communities.
