Geriatric Nursing Assistants working in
Maryland long-term care facilities have
a unique opportunity for advancement
by becoming a Certified Medicine Aide.
Certified Medicine Aides dispense
medications under the direction of a
registered nurse.
Nursing Assistant
Geriatric Nursing Assistant
(NA/GNA)
Nursing assistants/GNA are the foundation
of in-patient care. In hospitals or long-term
care facilities, nursing assistants are on the
front line of caring for patients’ daily needs.
This program provides training and inclass laboratory practice relating to the
techniques, principles and procedures for
safe administration of certain medications.
Upon successful completion, students will
be eligible to apply to the Maryland Board
of Nursing (MBON) for CNA licensure and
sit for the Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA)
exam.
Medicine Aide Program Requirements
• Current Maryland CNA/GNA license
• One year of full-time employment as a GNA in
a Maryland Facility
• Letter of recommendation from current
