Faust the Devil’s Bargain
Goethe’s Faust stands as a seminal work as it
explores essential dimensions of the human
condition: the limits of knowledge, the nature
of good and evil, the pursuit of happiness,
and the cost of exchanging eternal values for
temporal gain. The Faustian bargain has since
become a pervasive cultural metaphor, shaping
western understandings of temptation and
moral compromise. This course undertakes a
theological analysis of Faust through scriptural
engagement. Core topics include God and
Mephistopheles, Heaven’s council, spiritual
warfare, witchcraft, moral efficacy, reason,
angels and demons, eternal salvation, and the
theological weight of language. Students will
critically examine the text in dialogue with the
Holy Bible, considering its enduring moral and
theological implications. Instructor: Stevens

important as knowing the book meanings of
the cards. We’ll look at easy ways to break down
the cards, such as suits and numbering, to

Tarot Easter Eggs
The Rider Waite Smith Tarot relies on detailed
imagery to help seekers in divination. Within
that imagery are layers of symbols and concepts that add to the card’s meaning. A tiny
snail, two different shoes, references to Shakespeare, and even the artist’s friend’s cat, have all
slipped their way into the deck. Knowing these
extra details can help you connect even more
with the cards. All levels of Tarot experience
can explore these interesting and often quirky
details. Note: No senior tuition waiver. Instructor: Miller
