BASIC ELECTRICAL
HVAC/R
Basic Electrical Part I
This course covers the basics of residential
wiring and the basics of electrical theory,
tools, and systems. Students will learn to
design and install modern and safe residential
wiring systems that meet the electrical power
demands of today’s world. Topics covered
include workplace safety, electrical prints, AC/
DC theory, and the National Electrical Code.

NCCER HVAC/R – Level I
The HVAC/R program will provide the basic
knowledge and skills to become a qualified,
entry-level employee in the HVAC industry.
Upon successful completion of the program,
students will earn Certificate of Completion for
NCCER HVAC – Level 1, NCCER wallet card, and
their credentials entered in the NCCER Registry.
Students will also have the opportunity to take
the EPA608 Certification exam at the end of the
program.
Basic Electrical Part II
This course builds upon the topics in Basic
Electrical Part I. Topics include common types
of cable systems, cable types, and methods
for attaching conductors, switches and
receptacles. Students will also be introduced
to equipment grounding and how to test
switches, fixtures and circuit breakers. OSHA
standards and compliance issues will also be

ELECTRICAL APPRENTICESHIP
This intensive four-year electrical
apprenticeship program is designed to provide
electrical apprentices with the necessary
theory and practical training to earn the status
of electrician. Throughout the duration of
the program, apprentices work full-time and
attend classes two nights per week, providing
the 8,000 hours of on-the-job and classroom
training required for the journeyman electrician
license. The curriculum is recognized by the U.S.
Department of Labor’s Office of Apprenticeship
Training, and students receive nationally
recognized credentials as a Journeyman
Electrician upon satisfactory completion of the
four-year electrical program.
AN APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM:
• Offers paid employment with progressive
wage increases
• Includes structured, hands-on training under
the guidance of a professional electrician
• Combines supplemental classroom
education with practical learning tailored to
industry needs
• Provides a nationally-recognized, portable
certification upon completion

Cecil College has partnered with the National
Center for Construction Education & Research
(NCCER) to offer standardized construction and
maintenance curriculum and assessments with
portable credentials in construction, HVAC/R,
and welding.
INTRODUCTORY CRAFT SKILLS
NCCER Basic Construction
This course is designed to serve as an
introduction to basic construction skills.
The NCCER standardized curriculum
introduces basic skills for obtaining and
retaining industrial employment, including
an introduction to hand tools, power tools,
construction drawings, basic communication
skills, basic safety, and basic employability
skills. This certification-training course provides
the foundational skills needed to continue
entry-level education in any skilled craft. This
course also serves a pre-requisite to NCCER
craft programs.

The Skilled Trades, Associate of Applied
Science (AAS) degree program offers
