An upper-level Spanish course continuing the
language instruction. Students will improve
listening and translating as well as continue
to create dialogue with many practical
applications. The course will also include
information about cultures and traditions

This course is designed to further develop
fluency and comprehension for students
who have taken Spanish IV or the equivalent.
Students will apply four language skills listening, speaking, writing, and reading by
exchanging, interpreting, and presenting
information in multiple tenses and contexts.
Grammatical concepts introduced in
foundational and intermediate classes will
be reexamined. Pre-requisite: Spanish IV or
permission of instructor. Notes: Textbooks are

LITERATURE & WRITING
Great Films and Great Literature – Part I
Students will read three novels with the view
of comparing and contrasting the literary texts
with the films produced from them. The great
works of Agatha Christie’s Hallowe’en Party,
Eric Jager’s The Last Duel and David Grann’s
Killers of the Flower Moon will all be discussed
with regard to the text versions and then we
will watch the films and discuss how well they
were translated between the genres. Course
will examine and discuss the artistic styles
and expressions of each specified author.
Note: Students are responsible for getting the
reading materials. Instructor: Balaban

Great Films and Great Literature – Part II
Students will read two novels and one
autobiography with the view of comparing
and contrasting the literary texts with the films
produced from them. Wladyslaw Szpilman’s The
Pianist, Rumann Alam’s Leave the World Behind
and John le Carré’s The Constant Gardener will
all be discussed. We will watch each film while
simultaneously reading the novels and then
compare and contrast the two mediums with
regard to how well they are translated between
the two genres. Course will examine and
discuss the artistic styles and expressions of
each specified author. Instructor: Balaban

Music Lessons
Discover your musical talent and learn to play
the music you have always loved! Lessons
on most instruments are available, including
guitar, voice, piano, drums, woodwinds, strings,
brass and more. Notes: No senior tuition waiver.
All levels welcome. Students meet once a week
for private lessons. Lessons are consecutive
unless otherwise arranged with the instructor.
